Bedtime Maneuvers

Tobin has recently learned that procrastination leads to later bed times.
Here are some of his strategies, most of which we go through each night:

"I need a bath, I'm hot"

"I'm thirsty"

"I want mom/dad to talk about my day"

"Where are my horses/cars/books?"

"I have to pee"

And then as we leave the room:

"Daaad, uhmmm... Talk about my day again?"

Triathloning: A mountaineering substitute?

Some how, in the 35 degree heat, I managed to pull off second place in the Olympic distance triathlon in Salmon Arm. I missed the last morning breastfeed with Nicolas before the start of the race...which made me sprint for the finish!

It was great to have Cohen, Kirsten, Pappa Paul, Nana D., Tobin and Ryan cheering me on!!

Alpine Extravaganza

Harry, Travis and I tried to do a traverse of the summits between McGill Pass and Balu Pass this past Sunday. It turned out to be a much bigger day (more like days) than expected, plus we backed off before the third summit due to lightning. Oh well, that's how it goes. It was just so great to be in the mountains. 15 hours, 18km and a hair over 2000m climbed.

Looking back on the ridge we climbed up McGill, starting from Valley bottom it was about 4 hours to here. You can see my helmet in the lower left.

More ridge. More exposure. 500' to the left 1200' to the right.

Hello Exposure

We rapped down the nicest rock on the ridge...

...And climbed up sections of rock held together by mud

...And downclimbed dirt chimneys

Big Bad Bagheera. This is a big mountain. The ridge is a couple of km's long and the north face is 1500' of vertical rock

Boot skiing down to the valley. Glad to be close to the ground.

Looking down the Cougar Valley that we hiked down. So beautiful! Beautiful grizzly habitat and untouched. We hiked down here then back up to Balu Pass and down to the highway.

Pork chop anyone?

Bike Touring and camping with two kiddies!

Some more pics....

Uncle Angus' shoes. He's from Lasqueti.

more dancing fools!

The tin boat loaded up with two loaded chariots, two bikes, two kiddies, and us. Thanks Graham!

Dana and Ed's wedding was super fun and Newcastle Island is a great place to visit - great camping and fun trails all around. Tobin had fun dancing at the party.

We were so pleased to load up our boys and our camping stuff and cycle over to Newcastle Island for Dana's wedding. Although it wasn't very far from Ladner, where we left the car, it was pleasing to successfully negotiate the logistics.

On our way through Merritt, we picnicked with Carolyn, Adam, and their newest addition, Violet.
