okay okay okay...
Yes, finally an update. After much complaining from the grandparent demographic here's an update. Just got a fancy-ish camera and am in the process of learning how to use it and its raw files. So far I still haven't managed to install the software on our computer with its 'part time' cd player (still haven't managed to catch it while it's working).

You shouldn't trust the software that came with your camera anyway.
That's right. It's a conspiracy, they're in cahoots with 'big-pharma' and are putting mercury on our keyboards.
I love Nick's "deer in the headlights" look.
